In a first for Romania, there’s set to be an online adoption fair dedicated to senior dogs on Friday (Nov. 11).
The Authority for Animal Supervision and Protection (ASPA) is hosting the event on its Facebook page in the late afternoon. They’re working in partnership with the Bucharest City Hall.
Fifteen dogs all aged over eight years old will be on the lookout for their forever home during the event. They come from three ASPA adoption centers around the city: Bragadiru, Mihăilești, and Pallady.
People wanting to adopt a dog can also go to the fair on Nov. 19 in the Maxi Pet store in the Militari Shopping park in the city.
Other Adoption Fairs
While it’s thought to be the first online adoption fair in Romania, the ASPA does organize other adoption fairs. Back in May, they hosted Adopt from the Arena at Bucharest’s National Arena, featuring around 60 dogs and 20 cats from shelters and centers.
The event was complete with special guests, a raffle, and the chance to speak to experts including animal trainers and veterinarians.
Between July and September, the ASPA launched another campaign to encourage people in Bucharest to adopt puppies. The organization offered adoption packages featuring food, a bowl, and a toy.
Dogs in Romania
According to PETA, over 600,000 dogs in Romania live on the streets – more than in any other country in Europe. They’re at risk of dying on the streets, or even in some shelters, and most of them aren’t spayed or neutered, so will keep reproducing. If people take dogs to shelters but they don’t find their forever homes, or the shelters are full, they may be euthanized.
