Grandpa Radar had a pretty simple request that day: a few more minutes outside. Shared by @cassondrachristman, this heartbreaking video follows the gentle 8-year-old shelter dog as he enjoys some quiet time in the yard before it’s time to head back to his kennel. When the volunteer calls him, he simply settles onto the ground beneath a shaded shelter and stays there. He knows exactly where the kennel is, but he just isn’t in any hurry to go back.
Senior shelter dog won’t head back to the kennel despite human’s calls
The clip opens with the volunteer walking into the sunny play yard where Radar stands under a shaded shed. He wears a floral garland around his neck, looking incredibly charming. When it is time to go inside, the pup plops down on the ground and refuses to walk another inch toward the building. He wags his tail happily when the volunteer approaches but simply refuses to stand up.
He gets soft cheek pats and loving head scritches while enjoying the fresh air. The volunteer even lies right down on the grass next to him to keep him company. Duty calls eventually, so the volunteer attaches his leash and tries to guide him forward. Radar still does not budge, staring up with the absolute saddest eyes imaginable.
A few pieces of hot dog finally persuade him to stand up, and the pair slowly make their way toward the building. Along the way, Radar even pauses to greet another volunteer before continuing inside. The emotional video ends with this sweet shelter dog back inside his enclosure as the door quietly shuts.
This touching moment quickly earned over 7,600 likes. Viewers are taking to the comments, noting that this senior furbaby deserves a big, soft bed in a quiet home. He generally keeps to himself but gets along beautifully with other female dogs. Maui Humane Society is heavily crowded right now, making his search for a permanent family urgent. Fortunately, an adoption interest form is available online for families living off the island who want to save him.
