Shelter Dog Gives Human a Warm Hug After Having a Fun Day Outside His Kennel

For Junior, getting out of his kennel meant much more than going for a walk. The shelter dog got to spend time outside, explore new surroundings, ride in a car, enjoy a pup cup, and, most importantly, soak up plenty of human attention. By the end of the day, Junior seemed to make it very clear that he appreciated every moment.

Junior was surrendered on July 18 and now waits at the Benton Franklin Humane Society in Kennewick, Washington, hoping someone will give him a permanent home. A recent outing allowed the sweet dog to experience life beyond his kennel. He happily walked alongside his human companion and explored the area with his tail wagging.

Junior takes treats gently, responds when someone calls him, and can get on and off furniture without much trouble. Those small behaviors helped show just how easygoing he can be when someone gives him time and attention. Junior does not seem very interested in toys, but he still knows what he likes. He seems to prefer something much simpler: people. The shelter describes Junior as “lap loving,” and his outing showed how much he enjoys staying close to people.

When Junior returned to the shelter, he still wanted to stay close to the person who had spent the day with him. Rather than simply heading back into his kennel, he settled in for some much-needed cuddle time. The moment captured exactly what Junior seems to value most: being near someone who makes him feel safe and cared for.
