At first glance, Benny may look like another dog waiting in a shelter kennel. But spend a little time with him, and you will see a gentle and loving dog who is happiest around people. Now, Benny faces an urgent deadline, and his supporters hope the right person finds him before it is too late.
Shelter dog with the gentlest and kindest heart has been waiting for the right person to choose him
When a volunteer first approached Benny’s kennel, he was curled up in his bed and sleeping peacefully. Benny did not jump around or make a fuss when the volunteer came in. He woke up, noticed his visitor, and seemed happy to have some company. He was easy to leash and calmly walked outside. Benny took his time and enjoyed a stroll while taking in everything around him.
The video describes Benny as exceptionally “well-mannered and polite.” His quiet energy makes him the kind of dog who can make people feel relaxed by sitting beside them. He also showed an affectionate interest in the people around him.
Benny’s gentle demeanor, affectionate nature, and calm behavior have made him memorable to the people who have met him. He is a two-year-old, 38-pound Staffie mix, giving him plenty of life ahead of him if someone gives him the chance. His advocates believe someone will eventually fall completely in love with him. The problem is that Benny needs that person to find him quickly.
Benny is currently listed for euthanasia on Wednesday, September 2, and his advocates say he needs a local Houston foster and rescue by 1 p.m. tomorrow. Because he is marked rescue only, anyone interested in helping him should focus on the foster and rescue process rather than walking into the shelter expecting to adopt him. The rescue also needs financial pledges to help cover Benny’s expenses once a nonprofit organization tags him. Benny’s advocates are asking for a local Houston foster and a rescue organization willing to step forward.
