For a whole weekend, everything was being lined up for Marshall to leave the shelter for good. He had a promising meet-and-greet, so his favorite people made the most of what they thought would be his final days there.

Then came Monday. Marshall was dressed in a bow tie, his things were packed, and everyone waited for the person who was supposed to take him home. But no one came.

After a successful meet-and-greet the week before, the team thought they had finally found someone who saw what they saw in Marshall: a goofy, affectionate dog with plenty of personality.

So they gave him one last big weekend. Marshall went out in his wheelchair, visited his friends, and spent time with the staff who know him well. One friend even reached through the kennel bars to give him little licks on the face. Back inside, Marshall got belly rubs, cuddles, and plenty of attention.

He also got cleaned up for his next chapter. The team gave him a bath, fitted him with new jackets, and packed his belongings into a bag with his name on it. Then he put on the bow tie. He looked ready. Marshall and the staff waited in the driveway. They waited some more. Nearly an hour passed, but no one arrived.

The team made it clear in the post that the goal was not to shame anyone. They simply wanted to explain why showing up matters after an adoption commitment. It is completely fine to change your mind after a meet-and-greet. It is not fair to leave an animal waiting without a word.
