Shelter Dog’s First Time Sleeping in a Home After Life as a Stray Is Everything He Dreamed Of

A safe place to sleep can mean far more to a dog than simply having a roof over his head. After spending time outside without anyone to care for him, everyday comforts such as a bath, clean clothes, and a quiet bed can feel completely unfamiliar. One shelter dog’s first day in a foster home is now giving viewers a look at how meaningful those simple experiences can be.

A video shared by @adoptmiamipaws follows Aldean as he gets his first taste of life inside a home. The clip starts with Aldean sitting in the back seat of a car with his foster in the driver’s seat. Text introduces the day as “Foster Day 1” and notes that it is his first time sleeping in a home.

His first stop is for a bath, where his foster works to get him cleaned up. During the process, she points out that Aldean has dried poop stuck to his face, emphasizing the neglect he faced. After his bath, the pair make a stop at a pet store before heading back home together.

Once they arrive, Aldean is given another new experience when his foster puts him in pajamas. The dog then gets to take a quick walk outside before returning indoors for the night. After everything he has been through, the most important part of the evening is perhaps that Aldean is finally able to settle down somewhere safe and sleep.

His foster later shares that he is sleeping peacefully for the first time in “who knows how long.” However, while Aldean has finally experienced the comfort of a home, his stay is not guaranteed to last. According to his foster, she has only four days to find him a home before he returns to the shelter.

Aldean arrived at Miami-Dade Animal Services on May 1 after being found as a stray. It is unclear how long he had been surviving on the streets, but he arrived severely underweight and covered in wounds. Despite those difficult circumstances, he has remained loving, sweet, and remarkably friendly towards people.

Unless a suitable home or placement is found, Aldean is expected to return to the shelter on August 27. For now, he has a few precious days to enjoy the comfort of a home while waiting for someone to make that comfort permanent.
