Shelter Dog Still Greets Every Visitor Like She Did on Day One, Hopes To Trade Crate for a Couch

A shelter dog named Rhylee continues to welcome every visitor with the same enthusiasm she showed on her very first day, despite spending nearly two months living in a temporary crate. The affectionate 2-year-old has refused to let her circumstances dull her playful spirit, and volunteers hope someone will finally give her the forever home she has been waiting for.

Rhylee’s story was shared by @boroughbredinbrooklyn, an Instagram community page that spotlights adoptable dogs at the Queens ACC shelter. The video begins by introducing one of Rhylee’s most charming habits. “Rhylee is known to wink at her people,” the text reads as the black-and-white pup beams with a huge smile while sitting on a volunteer’s lap.

The shelter admits it may “sound like a broken record,” but says the staff never stop feeling amazed when dogs who spend weeks or even months in temporary housing continue to greet people with happiness. Rhylee has now spent nearly 60 days at the shelter, yet she still wiggles with excitement every time volunteers and staff visit her.

According to the caption, Rhylee arrived at the shelter in early June after her owner could no longer afford to care for her while also losing their home. The video describes her as a joyful dog who enjoys exploring on walks and eagerly greets familiar people. It also highlights her favorite things, including bath time, water, car rides, squeaky toys, and fluffy beds. Volunteers say she is more than ready to trade her shelter crate for what the video jokingly calls “your couch.”

The Animal Care Centers of NYC has listed Rhylee, a 2-year-old, 48-pound dog, for adoption through its Queens ACC under ID #254893. The shelter recommends her for experienced adopters and advises placing her in a home without children younger than 13.
