A touching video shared by Instagram creator @thenikosaurusrex has captured the internet’s attention by documenting the remarkable journey of a former street dog discovering the comforts of home for the very first time. The emotional montage follows Luna, a foster dog who spent more than two years surviving on the streets before being rescued and brought into a loving home environment.
Shelter dog gets a second chance at life and experiences the firsts she always deserved
As per the reel’s caption, Luna is approximately 2 years and 4 months old and had never lived inside a home before arriving at her foster placement. Her shelter name was Shinjuku, but her foster family decided to rename her Luna to make training and communication easier. The change appears to be working already. “She’s already starting to respond to Luna, and it’s the sweetest thing,” the caption explains.
Before entering foster care, Luna spent her entire life on the streets. After rescuers brought her to a shelter, she finally got the opportunity to experience a home environment for the first time. The video opens with Luna standing near a balcony door, gazing outside. The on-screen text reads, “Watch our foster dog experience all the ‘firsts’ she never got to have while living on the streets for her 2 years of life.” From there, viewers witness one milestone after another.
A clip labeled “First window car ride” shows Luna quietly looking out of a vehicle window. “First ever interaction with a toy, she doesn’t know what it is or what it’s for,” reads the on-screen text. Some of Luna’s most meaningful firsts involve simple comforts many dogs never have to think about. One clip shows her tucked beneath a soft blanket during what the video describes as her “First restful nap in a bed and blankie ever.”
The video later shows her excitedly playing with a toy for the first time. A text overlay reads, “First time playing with a toy. I actually sobbed.” While Luna has flourished in foster care, her foster family explained that they can only care for her for a limited time and hope she finds a permanent home. The family is currently seeking adopters in the Denver, Colorado, area and encourages anyone interested in providing Luna with a forever home to reach out directly.
