Human Hears Rescue Dog Whining & Comforts Him Anyway, Then Learns the Heartbreaking Reason

The quiet yet constant whining from Griffin made his new mom stop and check on him, even though there was no obvious reason for it. This rescue dog was lying on the dining room floor, and the human beside him could only offer some gentle comfort as he kept whining softly.

The video shared by @littledance takes an especially painful turn when, about an hour later, the family learns that Griffin’s first mom had passed away. She had loved him for nearly five years before entrusting him to a new family because she was terminally ill.

Whining rescue dog gets comforted by human, who then discovers the reason behind his tears

The video starts with Griffin lying on the floor in the dining room and making soft whining sounds. The Newfoundland’s new mom asks what is wrong, wondering if he is simply sulking or had a bad dream. He lifts his head, looks toward her, and lets out another series of little whines before turning away again.

It was only later that Griffin’s new family learnt via a call that his first mom had passed away. She had been the person who loved him for almost five years. Because of her illness, she had made the painful decision to find Griffin another home where he could be cared for for the rest of his life. His new family had promised to give him plenty of love, cuddles, and attention.

Now, seeing him lying there that day, they could only wonder what was going through his head. His new mom sits beside him and pats his chest. Griffin rests his head back on the floor, then reaches out a paw. She takes it and rubs it softly.

He keeps looking at her as she reassures him, “It’s okay, we’re all home today, we’re here love.” The video has received more than 31,900 likes, and the comments are full of people wondering whether Griffin somehow knew what had happened. Some viewers believe his first mom may have somehow said goodbye, while others simply found the timing deeply emotional.

There is no way to know what Griffin understood in that moment. What is certain is that this rescue dog was not left to whine alone. His new human stayed beside him, offered comfort, and reminded him that he was safe and loved.
