Put a group of dogs in the same situation, and you’ll likely get four completely different responses. Some will assess cautiously, others will react loudly, and a few may charge in without a second thought. These differences can reveal more about personality than training ever could. That dynamic plays out clearly in a recent video showing four dogs encountering a fake shark in a pool.
Four dogs have very different reactions to fake shark in pool
The video, posted by @imbluethesiberian, begins with owner Corey Moriarty stepping into a backyard pool holding a shark-shaped floatie. To make things more convincing, he moves it around in the water, mimicking the motion of a real shark. One by one, the dogs are brought near the pool to see how they react.
The first to approach is Maverick, a Golden Retriever. He appears curious but cautious, barking at the moving float while slowly inching closer. At one point, he even lifts a paw as if to test it. However, his bravery doesn’t last long, and he soon backs away, deciding it’s safer to keep his distance.
Next up is Blue, a Siberian Husky, who reacts almost immediately with nervous energy. He barks continuously, clearly unsettled, and keeps a safe gap between himself and the “shark,” as though warning it to stay away. Titan, another Husky, takes a more measured approach. He steps closer than Blue, studying the float carefully. While he doesn’t panic, he ultimately chooses caution over confrontation and retreats to observe from afar.
Then comes Bauer, the second Golden Retriever, whose reaction shifts the tone of the clip entirely. Without hesitation, Bauer leaps straight into the pool and goes on the offensive. He grabs the floatie with his teeth, shaking it vigorously before dragging it out of the water. In a matter of moments, he tears into the plush, dismantling it piece by piece. Corey, standing nearby, can only watch as his newly bought pool accessory is destroyed. Adding humor to the situation, he later wrote, “We’ll add it to Bauer’s tab.”
Viewers quickly rallied behind Bauer’s fearless display. Some joked they would want him on their side in extreme situations, while others said he deserved his own “Shark Week” feature. A few even declared him an “apex predator.” And as one comment summed it up, Bauer seemed to decide exactly what and who belongs in his territory.
