Video: 2 Dogs, 2 Different Reactions to Cold on Camping Trip

Cold doesn’t bother everyone the same way. And you can absolutely see that difference play out in this video from @gunner.shiba. It opens on a calm PNW morning: a tent connected to a car, lake nearby. Everything looks peaceful and crisp. One Shiba Inu appears in the tent opening, then the second, and from their faces alone, you can already feel the contrast coming. On paper, they’re identical — same breed, same age — but the cold clearly lands very differently for each of them.

Shiba Inus have different tolerance levels for cold on a camping trip

The clip starts at a beautiful lakeside campsite, with the pair peeking out from an unzipped tent door. While they both look ready for adventure in their jackets during the day, the night scene tells a much different story. The owner reveals Shoyu bundled up in two separate sweaters, yet the poor pup is visibly shivering in the corner. Meanwhile, the camera pans to Gunner, who is sitting there completely “naked” without a single layer of fleece, looking like his thermostat is turned to “comfy.”

Even with that thick coat, it’s clear not every Shiba experiences cold the same way. Some dogs just run colder than others. Gunner even sings a little song for the camera while lounging on a simple mat. He seems unfazed by the PNW mountain air. Between being cozy outdoors and sunbathing indoors, Gunner clearly knows how to really “chill.”

Their human was so baffled by the contrast that they asked followers if anyone had a scientific explanation. One viewer theorized that some pups just adapt their coats better to the outdoor lifestyle. While others are clearly meant for the “indoor heater” life.

When the video circles back to daylight and asks, “Are you Gunner or Shoyu?” the comments quickly fill with people choosing sides. Some of the commentators even compared notes. Whether it’s Korra who is 50/50 on the cold or Milo who needs two layers to survive a night under the stars, every pet parent has been there.
