Golden Retriever Guards Frozen Lake In Adorable Video

Living by a lake in New Jersey normally means lazy summer days and lots of water time, but Chili clearly did not get that memo once winter rolled in. As seen in @goldenchilidog’s video, this Golden Retriever has declared himself the official sheriff of the frozen lake. And whatever’s going on out there with sticks and skates? Chili is not on board.

In a hilarious video from his mom, Gailin, Chili puts a loud stop to a backyard game. Instead of hanging back, the Golden is right there on the ice, making sure that puck doesn’t get passed around for long. From his point of view, if the lake isn’t swim-ready, it probably shouldn’t be used at all.

A puck doesn’t stand a chance when Chili is on duty. It’s easy to see why the clip has already racked up around 1.6K likes. He starts by lunging across the slippery surface to snatch the puck. He’s clearly laying down the law about what happens on his turf. As his owner, Gailin, put it, “Chili’s lake is for swimming.”

If you aren’t swimming, Chili isn’t interested in your sport. He literally shadows the players’ every move, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. It’s hilarious to watch him weave between the hockey sticks with total confidence.

He sticks close to the action, following the players around as if he’s waiting for his moment. He barks them down whenever they get too close to his imaginary goal.

At one point, he intercepts a pass and runs away with the prize in his mouth. Everyone ends up cheering and sighing at the same time. You can see him later in the snow, chewing on the captured puck. It looks like a hard-earned trophy to him.

Anyone familiar with Chili’s personality will recognize this level of commitment immediately. Fans have seen him go just as hard while digging in the sand during the summer.

Sand in the summer or ice in the winter — once Chili claims something, that’s pretty much the end of it. Commenters are already calling him the “best goalie in the league.” He’s actually more of a puck-thief than a net-minder.
