Golden Retriever Feels Baby’s Kick for the First Time & Has the Most Unexpected Reaction

This Instagram clip is about a sweet moment on the couch when Sully gets his first little clue that his family is growing. In the video, the 4-year-old Golden Retriever is lying against Mom’s belly, and for a few seconds, everything is ordinary. And then the baby kicks. Sully’s eyes suddenly go wide, and the whole thing is caught in the video shared by @amandahartnettt.

The dog does not jump up or even move his head. He just looks surprised, glances at Mom, and gradually relaxes again while Mom pats him, as though instinctively knowing it’s nothing to be alarmed about.

Golden Retriever’s eyes go wide while feeling baby’s kick for the first time

When the video starts, Sully is stretched out beside Mom on the couch with his face resting against her belly. She keeps petting him while he lies there awake, his eyes only partly open. Then the baby moves, and Sully’s eyes widen almost instantly. He keeps his head down, but his expression changes completely as he seems to register the little kick beneath him.

He looks toward mom, who continues calmly petting him. That seems to reassure him, because Sully slowly settles back into his comfortable position and lets his eyes droop again. It is a tiny reaction, but it is easy to see why the moment has stayed with so many viewers.

Sully has already been part of his parents’ lives for four years. According to his family, he was even the first one to see the pregnancy test before mom and dad had properly taken in the news themselves. Now he is getting a very different introduction to his baby brother.

The Golden Retriever’s video has received more than 14,700 likes already, with viewers calling the moment with the baby’s lick “precious” and “priceless.” One person said the video should be saved forever. While another was already looking forward to seeing Sully and the baby grow up together.

There is no dramatic reaction from the Golden Retriever. Just a wide-eyed pause, a quick look at Mom, and then those sleepy eyes returning to normal. Still, that little kick seems to have gotten Sully’s attention.
