Video: Golden Retriever Poses in ‘Squash’ Costume

You really have to admire a dog who is willing to sit through anything just to stay in the middle of the action. Over at @adriaandoatmeal, poor Oatmeal recently became the unexpected canvas for a harvest-themed prank. While hanging out outdoors, his family and friends decided to see just how many vegetables they could fit on his body. This video shows us the exact moment the poor Golden Retriever becomes an autumn display.

Golden Retriever sits calmly with ‘squashes’ all over him in cute video

Right as the video begins, we see Oatmeal sprawled out on the grass with a whole group of people buzzing around him. They’re piling freshly harvested squash all over his back and legs. Instead of shaking them off, he sits perfectly still, posing like he’s on a high-fashion runway. One person in the crowd even jokes that he looks like he’s wearing a designer costume. The in-video text hilariously reads, “Oatmeal got squashed.”

This kind of patience is exactly why people love a Golden Retriever. They are just so gentle and really want to make their humans happy. Someone in the background of the video even points out how he froze his head, as if he knew exactly what was happening. Even as more uniquely shaped gourds are added to the pile, Oatmeal doesn’t budge. He seemed to genuinely love the attention he was getting.

More than 94,000 people have already liked the post. The comment section is absolutely packed with some pretty clever vegetable-themed jokes. One fan called him a “gourdan retriever,” while another joked that he looked like a “mighty king accepting offerings.” It does not seem to matter if he’s working on a farm or acting as a vegetable stand, Oatmeal is just glad to be part of the day.

Eventually, the crowd starts clearing the harvest off his fur, ending the “costume” for the day. Through it all, Oatmeal’s face never changes. He looks totally content as long as he is the center of the conversation.
