Golden Retrievers ‘Protect’ Owner From a Jacket in Cute Video

When you’re out for a stroll in sunny San Diego, you expect to run into surf, sand, or maybe a stray tennis ball — not a terrifying, stationary monster. But this video shared by @thegoldenbruvs shows otherwise. In it, Link and Otto, Golden Retriever brothers, are just strolling along with their mom, totally loving life. Then, out of nowhere, they just freeze! It’s like they saw a ghost. Their cute little waddle instantly turns into stiff legs and these intense, “we’re in danger.” Whatever is up ahead clearly does not belong in their neighborhood, and they are waiting for someone — anyone — to handle the situation and protect them!

Golden Retrievers can’t stop barking at the jacket hanging by the roadside

As the clip rolls, a car passes, and the moment escalates. Link and Otto hop backwards. One lets out a bark. The other joins in immediately. Full alert mode activated. Their mom pauses, slightly amused but cautious, while the other human keeps filming. When she takes a step forward, the hesitation is obvious. Link even glances back at his humans, that classic “are we really doing this?” look written all over his face.

As they get closer, they keep barking, clearly sure that they are guarding everyone around them. And then, the camera pans to reveal the threat: a black jacket draped over one of the yellow divider poles. To be fair, in low light, it may look a little suspicious. But it’s bright now, and the brothers want to err on the side of caution. The on-screen text says, “So glad they were there to protect us,” and it makes the whole thing funnier.

It’s just so on-brand for these guys. Goldens have this hilarious habit of thinking they’re way tougher than they actually are when something “dangerous” (like outerwear) shows up! Sweater weather or not, safety comes first.

The video has over 154K likes. And the comments are full of people sharing similar stories of Goldens bravely confronting rakes, decorations, and other household menaces. It turns out these two aren’t alone. The world is full of very good dogs, standing guard against jackets everywhere.
