Coka clearly does not need much encouragement to make friends. A few seconds with a shelter volunteer and she is already handing over a paw. That sweet little greeting comes near the start of a video shared by @downeydog18, where the 1-year-old shelter dog is relaxing in the yard with her tongue hanging out, a colorful bandana around her neck, and a very pleased expression.
She looks especially happy when the human filming shakes her paw. For a dog whose shelter listing says she is already past her euthanasia date, that easy friendliness makes the footage even harder to scroll past.
Shelter dog shows brightest smile and gives paw to human, hoping someone will see her and give her a chance
When the video opens, Coka is sitting on the grass at Downey Animal Care Center. She looks like she has just finished a pretty serious zoomie session. Her tongue is out, her bright bandana is sitting neatly around her neck, and she seems perfectly happy to have a little break. The volunteer reaches toward her, and Coka responds by offering a paw.
The volunteer gives it a gentle shake and says, “Aww, so friendly today, huh?” Coka suddenly gets a little bashful and turns her face away, which is honestly a cute response after confidently starting the handshake herself. “It’s nice to meet you,” the volunteer tells her while still holding her paw before letting go and stepping back.
That gives everyone a chance to see gorgeous Coka from head to tail. A moment later, she comes trotting right back toward the volunteer, apparently deciding that this whole interaction is actually a game. She settles down again in a sunny patch and happily accepts more pets while being called a good girl.
The video has received lots of likes, while viewers are asking others to share Coka so more people see her. One commenter said they were sharing the beautiful girl in hopes she would be adopted or fostered soon.
Coka is 1 year old, spayed, and weighs 58 pounds. Shelter information says she was surrendered because of a landlord issue and describes her as scared, sweet and precious. Her listing also says she had been around both big and little people. All the shelter dog needs now is for a human to hold her paw forever.
