Senior dog is losing weight
My 13 year old shepard mix is losing weight. Its really become apparent the past few days. Of course I will be bringing him to the veterinarian, but I am wondering what suggestions people have for stimulating appetite and weight gain in an older dog. As a puppy he had serious digestive problems and needed to avoid the usual culprits (corn, wheat, soy). He has been eating Canidae All Life Stages supplemented with... (continued)

K9 Advantix Side Effects?
Today I used K9 Advantix topical flea prevention on my 40lb dog. After I put it on her, she began pacing around the house and has been completely uninterested in anybody all day, she just wants to curl up in any strange corner she can find. Why is she acting this way? Is she having an allergic reaction to this product? She acted a little strange last time but I didnt think anything of it, this time...i'm not so sure. Should I stop using this product?
Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks.

Dog Food & Dog Nutrition
This is a very informative article that all dog owners should read. When I educated myself about the differences between natural pet nutrition and popular brands that are made with low-quality fillers, I switched to a grain-free food with chicken as the first ingredient called Natural Balance Alpha and never looked back. And your right, when you switch to a natural brand the amount of food you need to put in the ... (continued)

Separation Anxiety in Dogs
my akita is almost 5 years old but have just recently moved and also found out im pregnant, in the past we had no problems leaving her in the house unattended for a few hours whilst we did the shopping but now, no matter where we leave her she is either trying to dig into the cellar but if you put her in the cellar she's trying to scratch her way out, she started howling again and pulling curtains down, cannot unde... The dangers of the raw food diet
I considered going raw if we couldn’t find the right kibble for my allergic dog, but luckily we did. Honestly, I think if your dog has problems or allergies, there is a natural food out there and you don’t have to resort to raw. Lots of companies make limited ingredient foods (we use Natural Balance Sweet Potato & Venison) and it took us some trial and error but we found one that really worked and benefits her overall health (and our wallets!)

The dangers of the raw food diet
As someone who has 10 years experience as an RVT in an emergencyy/referral practice, I would like to put in my 2 cents. I have watched MANY beloved pets(both cats and dogs)die of Salmonella poisoning, and seen many cases of bone/organ disorders due to calcium/phosphorous imbalance. There are also many risks posed to human family members. I would never feed my dog raw chicken and feel comforatble having him near ... (continued)

Feeding people food to dogs
I don’t feed my dogs people food because even if a certain ingredient is in their dog food, it may only be a small amount and too much might not be good for them. I’m not a dog nutritionist so I leave it to the experts and only feed a natural dog food I can trust with ingredients I know are good like real meat as the first ingredient and also with blueberries, garbanzo beans, etc. in the mix. My dogs don’t do well with grains so we feed Alpha (natural balance) but each dog is different.

Dog Health
I have a healthy indoor cat. Just recently, I'd say in the past two weeks I have noticed he is licking his hind leg and right side of his torso, leaving him a bit bald. What home remedy can I use on him. I have used vitamin A, please advice is that was a good idea. Aslo he like water, so I bathed him with warm water, no shampoo. Your feedback is very important to me.
Thank you
Jeanette

Hacking
5 days ago I was surprised with a 3 month old adorable female schnauzer. Everything is going great. I took her to her kennels vet for a 72hr. follow up check and was told evertything looked good. She was hacking a lttle when I first got her, and now seems to do it more. Nothing comes up. It hasn't affected her appetite, activity, although it wakes her sometimes. When I mentioned it to the vet, he said she was... (continued)
