When to muzzle your dog

I Recently had a 3 year old German Shepherd taken away from me and killed by the City of Ogden, Ogden, Utah He was playing with my children in the yard and bit a couple children....not bad bites kinda nips but did break the skin...so had to be quarantined for 10 days...that made him so crazy!!!...when I picked him up out of quarantine the Animal Services said I had to have a muzzle on him at all times...except in the house!! Is this appropriate for his playing around??

Thinking about fostering an adoptable dog?

Before you start fostering it's also important you have all the necessary supplies. A quick visit to a pet store can get you everything you'll need. I found that out with the first animal I fostered. I had forgotten to get a litterbox! Luckily, it was easily remedied. ( http://aquaworldpittsburgh.com )

Chow Chow Australian Shepherd Mix

Tomorrow, me and my family have decided to go check out a dog, and see if he suits our family. I have been interested in him, and a few other dogs for a while, and sadly most of those dogs have been singled out. (To big, a Pit Bull, etc. I wanted the Pit, my my was against it tho) The dog we are considering is a male Chow Chow Australian Shepherd Mix. (CCASM) He is good with kids, dogs and most likely good wit... (continued)

Top 10 dog care essentials

I disagree with one thing. Do not ask your vet about what to feed your dog. They are not trained on nutrition. Learn how to read a dog food panel. Compare ingredients. Your local pet supply store should be able to help with this better than your vet. Beware of online oppinions. Remember dog food companies will all tell you that their food is the best. Beniful is a perfect example. The comercials tell you i... (continued)

Dog Sharing ?

I have recently found out about dog sharing, where people who can't cope through illness or infirmity or because they are suddenly working away or for whatever reason are finding it hard not to neglect their dog and wonder what to do about it. So dog sharing is where you share the care of your dog with someone else in the local community. It could be anything from occassional walks to a second home and anything in ... (continued)

Feeding a puppy

IMHO, from my experience you don’t necessarily have to feed different foods for puppies and adults. A few natural brands have an all life-stages philosophy and manufacture food you can raise your dog on and never have to go through the process of switching when they reach “adulthood” and possibly have to deal with all the digestion and diarrhea issues that go along with that. In the wild, puppies and adult dogs ... (continued)

Northwest Animal Rescue Alliance in Oregon--BUYER BEWARE

I am writing to let you know that an organization here in Oregon which lists its pets online has not acted responsibly. I adopted a dog from the Northwest Animal Rescue Alliance of Salem this spring. It was soon apparent that the pup had parvo, and I spent thousands (no typo) keeping him alive. He is OK now, but during his illness, the two contact women for the group assured me that the group would refund my ... (continued)
