Che doesn’t bark much. So when neighbors heard the 80-pound Chow Chow-Labrador Retriever mix barking at 4:30 in the morning on a Sunday, they knew something was wrong. Thanks to Che, the neighbors were able to spot the rowhouse fire in his home before it spread to other buildings and called the fire department.
Firefighters quickly put out the blaze and found Che lying unconscious on top of his owner, Andrea Bulat. Throughout the fire, Che refused to leave his owner’s side. Both Che and Bulat had to be revived with oxygen masks before being taken for further treatment.
Bulat is in critical condition at Temple University Hospital. Che was recovering at an animal hospital, and veterinarians were worried he might develop pneumonia after seeing some inflammation in his chest x-rays. But luckily, his health has improved enough that he is allowed to be released to a friend of Bulat for the time being. Hopefully this pup will be reunited with the owner he refused to leave behind soon.
