For years, her dad ate oatmeal for breakfast every morning, decorating it with chocolate chips to create what the family jokingly called the “oatmeal pupper.” He would arrange two chocolate chips for eyes and a smaller one for a nose, a ritual that became a lighthearted family tradition. When Barich left for college, her dad kept the tradition alive by texting her daily photos of his oatmeal creations.
Two years later, when Barich got her Golden Retriever puppy, she immediately noticed the resemblance. The puppy’s sweet face looked just like the breakfast character her dad had made for years. That’s how the puppy got his fitting name: Oatmeal.
Fast-forward six years, and grandpa’s devotion to Oatmeal has only grown. He built a pool specifically for the dog to swim in during the warmer months.
