‘Neglected’ Senior Shelter Dog Hopes To Be Chosen as He Has Little Time Left

When a senior dog arrives at a shelter after years of neglect, getting healthy again can be only the first hurdle. Lloyd has managed to recover much of his appearance since he was found as a stray, but the 8-year-old is now facing another challenge: finding someone willing to take him home. With his shelter deadline approaching, the sweet senior is hoping his next stop can finally be a safe and loving home.

Lloyd, an 8-year-old senior dog, is in urgent need of a foster or forever home after being placed on a deadline at Broward County Animal Care in Florida. A video shared by @thepawproject__ shows Lloyd inside his kennel as a staff member gives him treats through the bars. He watches hopefully and wags his tail, appearing eager for the attention despite the difficult circumstances surrounding him.

The video warns that Lloyd is scheduled to lose his life on September 3, leaving little time to save him. His current situation comes after a difficult start to his time at the shelter.

According to the caption, Lloyd was discovered as a stray in early June in a “heartbreaking condition.” He was missing a significant amount of hair, had calluses across his body, and severely overgrown nails. His condition suggested that he had gone without proper care for some time.

Since arriving at the shelter, Lloyd, who appears to be a Pit Bull mix, has made considerable progress. Most of his hair has grown back, and he is reportedly looking healthier than when he was first found. Yet despite his physical recovery, kennel life has become increasingly difficult for him.

Those who have spent time with Lloyd describe him as friendly, playful and very affectionate toward people. He enjoys attention and appears eager to interact with those around him. He also appears to be housebroken, potentially making him better prepared for life in a home than his current circumstances might suggest.

Potential adopters should be aware that Lloyd has displayed some barrier reactivity toward other dogs. Because of this, he would benefit from an experienced adopter who understands canine behavior. Giving him time to adjust rather than rushing introductions will be important.
