Surrendered Shelter Dog’s Longing Eyes Look for Her Forever Home

When a dog keeps looking toward the kennel door instead of barking for attention, it’s hard not to wonder who she’s hoping will walk back through it. A moving video from @julie_taylor_ca1 introduces viewers to Layla, a gentle shelter dog whose whole world changed after the person she had spent her life with lost her home. At just three years old, Layla suddenly found herself behind kennel glass doors, trying to make sense of a life that no longer felt familiar.

Shelter dog surrendered by previous owner is desperate for a second chance

The clip starts with a volunteer walking up to Layla’s kennel to give her some well-deserved spotlight. While the dogs in the surrounding kennels bounce around with lots of excitement, Layla chooses to sit perfectly still. She looks directly into the lens, a mix of curiosity and hesitation on her face. On-screen captions written from her perspective explain that her mom lost her home and had to give her up.

Then she starts wagging her tail slowly, but the confusion on her face makes it tough to watch. As the volunteer steps backward, Layla just stands right at the glass door, watching silently.

According to the staff, this gorgeous girl is an absolute dream to be around. She never barks in her kennel and loves to curl up into a tight ball for long cuddle sessions. Once she gets outside into the yard, her amazing energy completely takes over. She loves playing with other dogs and will do best around older kids who can keep up with her playfulness.

The non-profit rescue notes that she is incredibly affectionate and simply loves getting human attention. Hundreds of supportive animal lovers are already rooting for this sweet girl online. The comments section of the video is full of people sending the shelter dog prayers and wishing they could instantly heal her heartbreak.

Since the rescue handles out-of-state adoptions and placements into Canada, her perfect match could live anywhere. Adopters just need to make the travel arrangements to pick up their new best friend.
