Some homecomings are the last thing anyone would ever wish for, and Gia’s story is one of them. A heartbreaking video shared by @orangecountyanimalservices shows an eight-year-old shelter dog after being returned to her very first rescue. This sweet girl originally left the Orlando facility as an adopted puppy way back in 2018. But her owners recently faced an unexpected eviction notice. With nowhere else to go, they had to bring their beloved pet back to her very first shelter. Now, she sits completely frozen in her kennel, feeling deeply confused by her old surroundings.
Shelter dog has to now relive her kennel life after being surrendered
The clip opens with Gia lying nervously on the concrete floor of her enclosure. Then it cuts to show a volunteer sitting down next to her to offer soft head pats and quiet comfort. Even with these gentle gestures, the poor pup keeps her eyes fixed on the ground. She looks far too anxious to fully enjoy the extra attention.
Things do not get much better when the staff takes her out to the exercise yard. Gia scurries anxiously into different corners of the fence with her tail tucked tightly between her legs. Another worker kneels low to the grass to coax her over, but she quickly darts away. She slowly approaches the first volunteer to sniff an outstretched hand before stepping backwards.
The video’s caption reveals that Gia spent the last month keeping her guard up around everyone. Another family actually adopted her briefly but returned her after a few days due to alleged guarding behavior. However, the shelter staff notes that she actually takes great comfort from having a canine roommate.
More than 2,000 viewers liked the shelter dog’s video. Commenters are hoping that someone steps up to give this precious senior a safe place to heal.
The footage ends with Gia heading back inside her quiet enclosure with unsure eyes. She is healthy, quiet, and ready for a patient family to change her luck.
