Golden Retrievers have earned a reputation for carrying just about anything they can fit in their mouths. However, one lovable senior recently took that talent to an entirely new level. Duke, an 11-year-old Golden Retriever, left his owner speechless after proudly strolling through the house carrying an unopened bottle of wine as if it were just another one of his favorite toys.
Golden Retriever ‘retrieves’ a bottle of wine and surprises owner
The hilarious Golden Retriever video, shared on Instagram, quickly amused viewers who couldn’t believe what the clever retriever had decided to “retrieve” this time. The reel opens with Duke casually walking through the house with a dark wine bottle gently clamped between his jaws. The on-screen text reads, “Well, if this just doesn’t top all!” as the senior dog confidently carries his unusual prize across the room. The video was shared by @lifewithduke2025, an Instagram account dedicated to Duke’s daily adventures.
Instead of dropping it immediately, Duke heads straight toward his bed. It is already filled with plush toys and well-loved treasures he has collected over time. He carefully places the wine bottle among his growing stash before settling down beside it. The Retriever looks perfectly content with his newest addition. In the caption, Duke’s owner admitted that even they couldn’t quite believe what had happened. “I honestly cannot believe this myself,” they wrote. “He has taken a lot of things. We all know this. Well, today has been quite the day for Duke, and I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if he came out with the wine glass,” the caption joked.
The unexpected “wine delivery” quickly sparked hundreds of amused reactions. One viewer joked, “Oh, it must have been a rough day!!” Another wrote, “Duke!!! That’s Momma’s special juice! I think he’s trying to tell us that it’s 5:00 pm somewhere.” A third commented, “Mom, it’s HAPPY HOUR.” Another person laughed, “Lol, he’s my kind of dog!” One viewer summed up the mood by writing, “For the love of God, pour him a glass, he’s clearly had a day.”
