Being cute can get you surprisingly far in life, and dogs seem to know it. After all, it’s much easier to overlook a questionable decision when it’s made by a fluffy face with good intentions. That may explain why viewers couldn’t stop laughing at a Golden Retriever named Russet, who spent several moments trying to escape through a closed crate door while another one stood wide open. Text displayed on the video humorously notes that Russet is “using all of his brain power to figure out how to get out of the crate.” The caption perfectly matches what unfolds next.
Golden Retriever wants to get out of the already-open crate using the door that’s closed
Shared by user @_thegoldenranch_, the clip begins with Russet sitting inside his crate, seemingly eager to get out. At first glance, it appears as though the dog is waiting patiently for someone to open the door for him. However, as his owner records the scene, she reveals there is one important detail Russet has somehow missed. The crate has two doors, and one of them is already wide open.
Despite having a clear exit just a few steps away, Russet remains focused on the closed door. His owner was encouraging him. He was trying to help him understand that he is free to leave whenever he wants. Instead of turning toward the open side, the dog continues staring at the closed door as if it is the only possible way out.
The determined pup begins whining softly and tapping at the closed door with his paw, clearly hoping his owner will open it for him. Even with the solution directly beside him, he appears unable, or rather unwilling, to acknowledge it.
Eventually, after several unsuccessful attempts to convince him, his owner opens the door that Russet has been staring at the entire time. The Golden Retriever then walks out of the crate, apparently satisfied now that the “correct” exit is available.
One commenter joked, “All floof. No brains.” Another suggested there might be a practical reason behind the behavior. He wrote, “He’s practicing for when the door is closed.” Some viewers thought the dog simply wasn’t convinced by his owner’s instructions. “He doesn’t believe you,” one person commented. One user offered a different theory, saying, “Clearly it wasn’t open on the side that he wanted.”
