A sweet Instagram video from @maggiemalamute shows a dog looking at her dad from the window as he heads off to work. In the video, the Alaskan Malamute named Maggie takes her usual spot at the window to watch her dad leave, with the on-screen caption explaining, “I had put my car in reverse to leave for work when I looked up.” Maggie’s dad had just shifted the car into reverse and glanced up, only to find her standing there, staring at him.
Dog looking at dad leaving for work from window will melt anyone’s heart
As the dog is looking at her dad from the window, she lowers her head until only the top of her head and those watchful eyes peek over the windowsill, as though she is trying to hide the staring but cannot help herself. Under the video, the caption reveals, “I always see her in the window when I leave.”
Dogs are accustomed to keeping track of their pack. So for a dog like Maggie, her dad is the sun around which her world spins — and Malamutes in particular rely heavily on attachment and observation with their humans. When you walk out the door, they just want to watch you return.
Viewers resonated deeply with the video, with one person joking, “I couldn’t leave. I’d have to quit my job,” and another adding, “Immediately call out,” while a third person confessed, “This pulls at your heart strings.” Meanwhile, a viewer was really emotional about the whole scene. They shared, “I don’t know why this makes me cry but it does… Maggie just has the most expressive face and watching her seeing you leave just hits hard.”
Husky and malamute owners poured in, too, saying that their dogs pull the exact same maneuver from their own windows, making it a breed-wide specialty. So if Maggie’s dad has not considered working from home yet, this is a sign that he probably should.
