His dad wanted to take him out for the first time since a recent procedure. Instead of jumping into the backseat, Cactus squeezed through a tiny opening to hide among the clothes and shoes. He is just a sensitive soul who needs a little extra time today to process and decompress.
Rescue dog doesn’t want to go in the car and hides in the closet until dad helps him

He finally gets up but makes a quick detour straight into the closet. His dad has to slide the door open to find him staring back with huge, worried eyes.
Dad assures him that they are definitely not going to see the doctor today. Cactus just sits there looking unsure while his tail gives a very tiny, hesitant wag. He is clearly a very smart boy who remembers his last vet visit. Michael realizes that his buddy needs some extra reassurance to feel safe again. In the caption, he mentions that he does not want fear to become a permanent reaction for his sweet rescue dog.
So, he chooses to sit down right at the entrance of the closet. He meets Cactus at eye level and invites him to come closer. When that does not work, he decides to lie completely flat on the floor. This move works perfectly because Cactus finally comes closer to plopping down on his chest. Dad pats him with long, slow strokes to help him calm down.
