In a hilarious Instagram video from @thegoodfloof, a herding dog named Mochi has a new job — one that comes with a docking station. The Border Aussie keeps a close eye on a robot vacuum as it rolls across the floor.
He does not bark or pounce, but trails the cleaning robot step for step, hovering a few inches behind it like a paid supervisor. By the time the vacuum reaches its home base, Mochi is finally satisfied that he did his job right.
Herding dog possibly believes he’s in charge of the robot vacuum
In the video’s on-screen text, the owner explains, “my herding dog really thinks he’s the one herding the vacuum back to its station,” while the caption doubles down on the joke. The caption says “He finally has livestock to herd”.
Throughout the video, the robot vacuum glides through the house while its charging dock waits against the wall. Mochi traces the vacuum’s path without getting in the way, but he stays close enough to manage the situation and careful enough not to get run over.
Viewers loved the idea that Mochi has appointed himself head of household operations. One person commented, “Doing a perfect job buddy,” while another wrote, “He said ‘don’t worry guys, I’ll handle the livestock.’” One commenter even gave Mochi full credit for the parking job. The viewer wrote, “He did, we just watched him do it.” Meanwhile, a fourth comment joked, “This is what generations of breeding led to.”
Herding dogs often react to movement automatically, as if they are specifically built for it. They follow, circle, and guide anything that scoots away on its own. A robot vacuum hits the same buttons as it moves and changes direction. And once Mochi sees the vacuum end up in its station after he escorts it there a few times, the accomplishment probably starts to feel like his own idea.
Either way, the dog in this video looks convinced he is running the show. And, his fans are here for it.
