Video: Golden Retriever Has a Meltdown After Being Denied Chicken Nuggets

A vet visit is only worth the trouble if a treat waits at the end of the appointment. Sterling, a popular puppy school dropout from @lifeofsterlingnewton, has a very strict policy about post-clinic snacks. In a recent viral video, this Golden Retriever learns that some medical trips involve a mandatory “no treats” rule.

He can see the McDonald’s golden arches nearby. But since they did not stop for chicken nuggets, he feels totally betrayed. He believes an upset stomach is no excuse for skipping a tradition. This boy takes his fast-food rewards very seriously.

Video captures Golden Retriever’s tantrum when vet visit doesn’t end with chicken nuggets

The clip shows Sterling standing on the backseat, staring out the window with a heavy-hearted gaze. He looks completely crushed. He refuses to acknowledge his mom in the front seat. On-screen text explains he’s fuming because his upset tummy meant skipping his usual reward. His mom tries to explain the medical reasoning, but Sterling just stares at the parked cars with pure, unadulterated drama.

Even when his mom offers a sincere apology, he only gives a half-second eye shift. He freezes his body in a silent treatment pose. Then he blinks a few times slowly while looking out at the world.

Mom tries to cheer him up by promising chicken nuggets later; however, Sterling isn’t interested in future promises. He wants a snack now. And he wants his mom to know he is deeply disappointed in her life choices.

This tragedy has touched over 14,900 people. Fans in the comments section of this video are siding with Sterling. Many suggest a single box of nuggets won’t fix this betrayal. Some joked he needs a double trip tomorrow for the emotional damage. His mom also mentions in the caption that he eventually got his treat. And we’ll see that video, soon, too.

What makes the video so funny is how restrained his reaction is. Any Golden Retriever parent knows they’re emotional creatures, and Sterling is clearly feeling every ounce of this injustice. He’s not throwing a fit — he’s sulking professionally. And it eventually works!
