Owner Ensures Golden Retriever Puppy Sees What He Was Barking At

Goose is a very silly San Diego pup who will be celebrating his first birthday soon, but right now, he’s still figuring out what’s scary and what isn’t. In a hilarious new video on @dailydoseofgoose_, the Golden Retriever puppy’s dad decides to validate his very vocal concerns about absolutely nothing.

Instead of ignoring the random barks, his dad scoops him up and carries him right onto the balcony for a proper investigation. It’s that classic new puppy parent moment where you just have to lean into the chaos and show them the “threat” is purely imaginary.

Golden Retriever puppy barks at nothing and owner makes sure he sees it

The onscreen text perfectly sets the scene: “Showing our puppy he’s barking at nothing.” The dog dad holds Goose securely in his lap, walking him around the outdoor space so he can get a good, elevated look at the empty air he was just yelling at.

Goose just looks mildly confused in that adorable, fluffy way Golden Retrievers have, seemingly unconvinced that the danger has completely passed. His mom, who is filming the whole thing, captures the pure innocence of the “investigation.”

As his owners simply put it in the caption, “He’s just a baby,” and he’s just doing his best to protect the house from invisible intruders. That’s life with a new puppy in a nutshell. You can read all the books and see all the videos, but your puppy will come up with their own set of personality quirks that will need addressing.

And with over 75,500 likes, plenty of people are loving this proactive approach to handling puppy fear periods. The comments are absolute gold, with viewers immediately jumping in to defend Goose’s hard work.

One person hilariously pointed out the obvious: “He is barking, that’s why there’s nothing!” Another joked, “Dad do you see any ghosts here? No right..Cause I scared them away.” It’s hard to argue with that logic. He’s just practicing his guard dog duties, even if his targets are totally imaginary.
