Dog Is Excited for Grandma To Tag Along on Vet Visit

Many dog parents know how stressful vet visits can be for animals, especially when they’re already feeling unwell. Even the calmest dogs can become nervous in unfamiliar settings with new smells, sounds, and people. For some pets, having a trusted family member nearby can make all the difference. That’s exactly what one family discovered after bringing grandma along for extra support during a recent appointment.

Lulu, an American Bully, hadn’t been acting like herself. According to her owner, she had been refusing her breakfast until late in the afternoon, something that was completely out of character. Along with her missed meals, her eating patterns became irregular, and she began experiencing diarrhea. Concerned, her family decided it was time for a trip to the veterinarian. Like many dogs, Lulu wasn’t thrilled about the idea, and her nervous energy was clear.

As her owner filmed, the dog’s initially appeared uneasy. But the moment she heard that grandma would be joining them, everything changed. Her ears perked up, her posture lifted, and she rushed to the window as she waited for her favorite person to arrive. When grandma finally walked through the door, Lulu’s tail began wagging with enthusiasm, and she greeted her with excitement and relief.

The video later shows the dog riding to the vet with her grandma sitting beside her in the car. Although the clinic environment still made her anxious, grandma’s presence seemed to help her stay grounded. Lulu cautiously accepted treats while waiting to be seen, but continued to stare at the exit, hoping the visit would end quickly.

Once it was time for her exam, Lulu’s anxiety resurfaced. Even after receiving medications like trazodone and gabapentin, she still didn’t allow the veterinary staff to touch her. Ultimately, the team had to sedate her so they could perform bloodwork and a full physical exam safely. Throughout the process, grandma stayed close, gently petting Lulu as she drifted to sleep.

After the procedure, Lulu received fluids to help with dehydration from her diarrhea, then was sent home to rest. A later clip showed her fast asleep, recovering from the long day. Thankfully, Lulu’s bloodwork came back normal, as per her owner’s update. While she may not love the vet, the video shows that having the right support can make even the most stressful moments a little easier.
