Owner Tries To Ban Dog From Swimming but It Doesn’t Work

Tell a dog ‘no’ when it comes to their favourite thing, and boom — there’s this look they get, as you’ve just thrown down a challenge they’re dying to accept. Tato absolutely takes that idea and runs with it — he stares at the ‘Closed for winter’ sign like it personally wronged him.

The video from @good.boy.tato opens with the Labrador Retriever sitting beside his beloved pool, wearing a face that says he has just witnessed a crime against joy. He wiggles his nose like he’s thinking hard, and you can practically hear him wondering if that ‘Closed’ for swimming sign includes him or just… everyone else.

Dog does the exact opposite of owner’s swimming requests in video

This video of the dog swimming in winter blew up fast; over 279K people hit like, probably because they’ve seen that exact brand of ‘you can’t stop me’ determination in their own dogs. It starts with him planted beside the backyard pool while his mom posts the seasonal shutdown notice. He studies it with the unamused focus of someone who’s just watched their weekend plans evaporate. Even the water seems to mock him a little.

He then stands on his hind legs, placing his paws right on the forbidden sign, tail giving a slow, reluctant wag. He knows the pool is closed, so he walks away, trying to step away from temptation, as if putting distance between himself and the pool will help.

Once he’s inside, he flops onto his bed with the drama of someone whose weekend has been officially ruined. Then he falls asleep and dreams about the pool, literally sees his reflection in the water calling him back like some kind of soggy siren. That’s what jolts him awake.

When he heads back outside, you can almost watch every chaotic thought bouncing around in his brain. He weighs the options. He considers the sign. And then, in a single glorious beat, his whole expression shifts to: “You know what? To hell with the rules.”

He suddenly takes off, hurls himself into the pool, and hits the water in a dramatic movie slow-mo moment. And right on cue, he realizes the water is way colder than whatever fantasy he had in mind. He swims back shivering, soaked, and absolutely convinced he made the correct choice anyway. As one viewer put it: “His face says he has absolutely not learned his lesson.” Only facts.
