Video: Dog Attempts to ‘Scare’ Owner Away as They Try to Move Her Off Couch

Ask any dog owner who “really” runs the household, and the answer will almost always be — not the human. People might handle the bills, groceries, and vet appointments. However, canines hold authority over the couch, bed, and just about any cozy surface. One Dachshund recently proved this point in a video, where the dog showed exactly how she feels about being asked to move.

Dachshund just won’t move from the couch and gave hints to dad in Instagram video

The dog video, posted by Instagram account @little_lemon_ginger, captures the comical standoff between the Dachshund and her dad. As he tries to pick her up from the couch, the little Doxie immediately puts on a show of resistance.

She growls, bares her teeth, and gives her best “don’t mess with me” face, hoping it will convince him to back off. Far from intimidating, the scene has both her mom (who is behind the camera) and dad bursting into laughter at the tiny but fierce performance.

According to the caption, the pup is normally sweet-natured and affectionate. This wasn’t a sign of aggression. It was rather her way of saying she didn’t want to leave the couch or head upstairs just yet. Like many dogs, she simply had her own idea of how the evening should go.

Many viewers weighed in with their own observations and stories. One joked that the pup’s dad should have taken her growls more seriously: “You’re supposed to be scared, dad.”

Another noticed the Dachshund’s guilty expression, writing, “The way she looks so upset after she showed teeth, like she didn’t want to have to get to this point.” Someone else admitted they understood the pup completely, saying, “She loves her couch. I do too. I could sleep on a couch!!!”

If you’re dealing with a stubborn pup, it helps to think of their resistance as communication rather than defiance. Many dogs respond best when training feels like a game. So, using treats, praise, or even a favorite toy can help encourage them.

Offering an appealing alternative, like a soft dog bed, also makes moving off the couch feel less like a loss for the pup. What matters most is keeping the approach gentle and steady, since scolding or punishment usually only creates pushback.
