Video: Bernese Mountain Dog Has Cute Habit When Eating Food

When dogs are puppies, it’s easy to assume their little quirks are just temporary. They spin in circles before eating, bark at their own reflection, or, in some cases, decide the floor is the only acceptable place to dine. Most pet parents chalk it up to a phase, something they’ll outgrow with time and a bit of training. However, as this Bernese Mountain Dog is proving in a now-viral video, some habits die hard. A Reel showing his hilarious “then and now” eating style has taken over Instagram, and viewers are loving every second of it.

Bernese Mountain Dog’s eating style is way too adorable

The video starts with a fluffy Bernese Mountain Dog puppy lying flat on his belly beside his food bowl. His legs are stretched out behind him as he munches away on his food. Text on the screen playfully asks, “He won’t always eat lying down like this will he?” It’s a fair question. You’d assume the pup might outgrow the habit as he gets older and bigger.

The video then jumps to the same dog, now fully grown and taking up considerably more space. However, nothing else has changed. He is still happily eating while sprawled out on his belly, this time next to a noticeably larger food bowl.

His tail thumps contentedly against the floor as he digs in, completely unfazed by his size or surroundings. In the caption, the owner answers the question from the beginning of the video with a simple, funny truth: “The answer is…YES. He may have gotten a ‘little’ bigger, but he still eats the same.”

There’s something about seeing a full-grown dog stick to a childhood habit that resonates with people, and the comments under the video say it all. “I love when animals have silly little habits and routines,” one viewer wrote, appreciating the sweet consistency. Another added with humor, “God forbid a boy wants to eat in comfort.”

A popular comment compared the behavior to human habits: “This is the human equivalent of getting a good plate of food, sitting on the couch and turning on your show.” Several people even mentioned seeing the same thing at home. “My husky does the same thing! People are always amazed!!” one dog parent shared.
