In her Instagram post, Corby McCoin expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Gary, describing him as an inseparable companion. She wrote, “He never left my side and he was truly my best friend.” Their bond was a continuation of the strong connection Gary had shared with Fisher, where he served not only as her pet but also as a service dog to help manage her bipolar disorder.
McCoin celebrated Gary’s life after Fisher’s passing by sharing photos and stories with his 147K Instagram followers. The duo had relocated to Florida in 2019, starting a fresh chapter together. In the tribute, McCoin invited followers to commemorate Gary’s life by sharing the pup’s photos on February 21, which would have been Gary’s 13th birthday.
According to PEOPLE, Fisher adopted Gary through her daughter, Billie Lourd, who was the dog’s original owner. In an interview, Lourd shared that Fisher “fell in love” with Gary, ultimately deciding to adopt him. The French Bulldog soon became an iconic companion, frequently appearing alongside Fisher in public and capturing the hearts of fans.
Followers of Gary have flooded the comments section with fond memories of the pup. “Playing with him outside the Chinese Theatre after watching The Last Jedi when he was wearing his cute wee X-wing pilot outfit was cathartic and a memory I truly cherish,” wrote one user. Another said, “i’m so grateful that i got the opportunity to meet carrie & gary together before they passed.” It’s clear that Gary’s presence had left a lasting impression on those who met him.
