The video follows the journey of a senior dog named Kepa at the shelter, who had to face the unthinkable after spending over a decade with his best friend, Deena.
Their world changed when their owner moved into assisted living. They arrived at the facility together. Sadly, Deena passed away due to health issues soon after. Now, 14-year-old Kepa is navigating life for the first time alone. However, not all is lost.

The clip starts with them both in a kennel. They are sleeping on their own beds with toys everywhere. The caption tells us they spent over ten years side by side. This senior dog and his sister grew up and grew old together before landing at the shelter. Coming to the rescue was a shock, definitely, but they still had each other’s presence. They were each other’s constant through all the changes.
Everything changed when Deena started declining. She had a heart murmur and seizures, and eventually succumbed to them. The video shows a heartbreaking shot of them together in their kennel the night before she passed.
Next, the video cuts to Kepa sleeping there all by himself. He looks so lost without his partner. A volunteer comforts him with gentle pats while he stares at the empty space, as he has never been without her. It is so hard to watch him without his best friend. This video was originally made to be an adoption appeal, but since then, there has been a happy update.
In the comments, Cassondra shared that on April 20, Kepa officially left for an adoption trial. People are cheering him on across the internet. He might need to be the only pet since he is used to just Deena. But the pooch is finally getting a chance at a real home again. This senior dog deserves all the comfort in the world after his time at the shelter. Hopefully, this trial will become his forever landing spot.
