Furthermore, older dogs are more prone to developing the condition than younger pups.

Treatments for Enlarged Liver in Dogs

Firstly, your vet will ask questions about your dog’s symptoms and medical history. Secondly, a full physical examination will be carried out. Thirdly, blood and urine tests will be ordered.

Depending on the results of the tests, additional ones will be needed. Tests to monitor blood clotting and heartworms are common.

Additionally, the liver can be examined closely by X-rays and ultrasounds.

Finally, a sample will be taken for testing if a tumor is spotted.

Ultimately, treatment will depend on the precise underlying cause. For instance, severe cases will involve a spell of hospitalization for your dog. Surgery might be needed to remove any tumors.

Dogs recovering from an enlarged liver need to pay special attention to their diet. Mostly, this involves being fed smaller meals more frequently throughout the day.
