Woman Refuses to Eat Sister’s Thanksgiving Dinner Due to Super-Shedding Dog, Asks ‘AITA?’

We know you love your dog, but that doesn’t mean you love all dogs, right? It’s OK. You can admit it. We also wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t want to share space – much less a Thanksgiving meal – with a shedding dog. But maybe don’t share those feelings with the internet, especially after you hear what happened to one Reddit user who dared to ask, “Am I the a*****e?” on the platform.

A Hairy Situation

Here’s how it all went down. Reddit user One_Procedure8627 posted a query in the “Am I the A*****e” subreddit on Friday, Nov. 25, titled “AITA for going home because of my [sister’s] dog being at Thanksgiving.”

“I don’t eat food at/from my sister’s house,” she explained. “I’ve found dog hair in her cooking before, so I gently pass on her dishes. Privately I have told my mom that I don’t like her dog around food and I won’t eat my sister’s dishes.”

She described how she arrived for Thanksgiving dinner at her parents’ house and discovered that her 29-year-old sister was helping prep the feast.

“Next thing I know the dog is trotting through the kitchen,” the Redditor said. “This whole situation was too much, and I told them I wouldn’t be eating this food.”

“They ask why, I tell them why,” she continued. “My sister says I’m blowing things out of proportion. Mentions lots of people eat food prepared [while] dogs are nearby. I tell her I’m not one of those people.”

Try Shedding That Bad Attitude

While we can totally understand not wanting your turkey breast with a side of dog hair, this is where our compassion ends. That’s because the Redditor said she does not like dogs in general, and criticized her sister for acting like “her world revolves” around the pup. (And if it does, so what?)

But we don’t need to call out One_Procedure8627 for her doggy discrimination. Fellow Reddit users did that for us.

“Your family relationships will do better if you own up to having an unusual and very strong phobia against eating around pets,” capmanor1755 opined.

“Ask your mom and sister if they are open to accommodating you rather than suggesting that they’re unhygienic beasts, and you’ll be more likely to preserve your family relationship,” another offered.

“I am absolutely not a dog fan but unless they were wiping their utensils on his butt, I think you’re being pretty dramatic,” SoloPiName said.

We can say with confidence that if One_Procedure8627 wasn’t up for eating the Thanksgiving meal, there was probably a very hungry pup who would have happily taken her place at the table. Perhaps rather than shaming a shedding dog, she should try to shed that bad attitude.
