Rescue Dog up for Adoption Scratches the Kennel Door Every Time It Closes

Spending 20-plus hours in a concrete shelter enclosure is tough, but one sweet girl refuses to give up hope. A moving clip shared by volunteer @jsaraceno shows a sweet shelter dog up for adoption pawing at her kennel door. The viral footage captures the bittersweet reality of long-term rescue residents and is breaking hearts online. This beautiful five-year-old Australian Cattle Dog just wants a loving family to call her own. She has already spent a chunk of her life waiting for a breakthrough, and Julie has promised her that she’ll get it this week.

Shelter dog awaiting adoption has heartbreaking reaction every time kennel door closes

The clip opens with Julie inside, giving the pup some well-deserved back scratches. Clover spins around with pure joy. She even tries to wedge herself between the volunteer and the exit. The in-video text explains that Julie set her phone down so viewers could see life from Clover’s perspective as a shelter dog.

But then Julie has to step outside and lock the kennel door. Clover immediately hops up and scratches at the barrier. She tries to peer through the tiny cracks. To think that this is her view for 20 hours a day is just heartbreaking. There’s a bed with a blanket, a Kong toy nearby, but Clover barely looks at either one. She keeps checking under the door. Then back at the mesh window. Then back again. At one point, she lets out a small whine before sniffing the phone, almost like she can still smell Julie nearby.

This gorgeous girl is an Australian Cattle Dog who arrived as a stray in Kennewick, Washington. Members of this herding breed typically thrive with a clear job to do or wide open fields to explore. Clover has spent over 400 days at a shelter as a dog without any known history. Julie promised the pup that a permanent home would happen soon. And she is begging the internet to help.

Julie later returns to the kennel, and Clover completely lights up again. Tail wagging wildly. Happy hops. Treats. Attention. Everything this girl has clearly been craving for a very long time. The emotional post gathered over 3.7k likes in just a few hours. Viewers are flooding the comment section with supportive notes. She is currently available for adoption at the Benton Franklin Humane Society.
