Huddled deep in the dirt right next to a busy road is the absolute last place anyone expects to find a newborn puppy. But an Instagram clip posted by @annatevez6 shows a sweet stray dog doing her best to shield her tiny baby inside a literal ditch. Anna, the dedicated animal control officer, responded to an emergency call about this vulnerable pair. The mother dog and her baby only had a flattened cardboard box and a thin blanket to survive out in the elements. Thankfully, Anna quickly jumped into action to give the small family a real chance at a happy future.
Mama dog and her little baby get help after just having a box and blanket for shelter
The footage opens with the officer walking down the side of the road. She spots the mother sitting nervously next to her makeshift shelter. Anna calls out softly to reassure the protective mom. An untouched bowl of food sits nearby, showing just how anxious the poor animal must be feeling. She then patiently extends her hand so that the dog can get a quick sniff. After receiving a hesitant sniff of approval, she gives the dog some gentle head scratches.
Turning the camera around reveals just how close the mama stray dog and her baby were to the traffic, and yet hidden. The officer checks the blanket and finds the puppy there. She carefully lifts the small pup to check its health and then holds her close. From the caption, we learn that Anna checked the surrounding area for more pups before loading the family into a crate in the back of her car.
Anna shared that while she drove the pair back, rescue partners had already begun coordinating help. Fortunately, a nonprofit organization stepped up to help by the end of the day. And a foster had even arrived to pick up the family before nightfall.
Because of this quick teamwork, the mama stray dog and her baby never spent a single night inside a crowded shelter. Hundreds of online viewers liked the post, praising the officer for her dedicated rescue of the dogs.
