Foster Dog Parts With New Toy When He Returns to Shelter, Unaware of What’s Next

Potter’s story begins with a small toy that clearly meant much more than it seemed. The foster pup had to return to his kennel without his green and purple frog, even though it was all he had. Jan Vega later shared the video on Instagram, showing how that sad goodbye turned into a gentle reunion after Potter’s story reached more people online.

The video shows Jan holding the frog toy at a shelter counter in Los Angeles. The on-screen caption explains that the shelter did not allow her dog to keep the new toy when she returned him. Another caption adds that she knew it sounded silly, but the frog was all Potter had at that moment. He went back into his kennel without it, while Jan promised he would see his friend again.

Potter’s earlier clips soon helped change his path. The next part shows the toy inside a shipping box, with text saying Potter was rescued shortly after his videos went viral. Jan then brings the frog to him, and Potter sniffs it before carrying it around his new space. The scene feels simple, but it gives the little toy a much bigger meaning.

In the final moments, Potter rests on the floor with the frog placed on his head. His crate and bed appear nearby, while the room looks quiet and safe. Jan wrote that Potter got his frog that day and said she hoped it would follow him wherever life took him. She also noted that Potter remained available for adoption through WishBone Rescue.

The video drew thousands of reactions from viewers who were moved by the reunion. One person called it “the happiest ending.” Another wrote, “Oh this sweet baby and his frog!!!! Thanks you to this amazing foster nf volunteer.” A third added, “this brings happy tears to my eyes.” Another comment said, “his makes me cry. The level of care and compassion from Jan & Christine gives me so much hope in humanity.”
