A few seconds of attention is all it takes to turn Rocco’s whole day around. He is a bubbly five-year-old pup who has spent nearly a full year living behind kennel doors without receiving a single visitor request.
However, as we see in a video shared by @hope4miamipaws, the shelter dog lights up the moment someone pauses outside his kennel. It’s bittersweet to realize that even after more than 300 days of waiting for adoption, he’s still holding onto hope that his person is out there somewhere.
Shelter dog up for adoption spends his days locked in a tiny kennel but still has hope
The clip opens with Rocco behind his metal mesh door, launching himself into the air just because someone has stopped to give him attention. He spends most of his day behind locked doors, so the mere sight of a volunteer stopping by makes him drop into celebration mode. He wags his tail at lightning speed and executes perfect little bounces off of the floor.
Typical of a tenacious Terrier mix, his high-energy spirit remains intact despite his stressful environment. But things get even better when he finally steps out onto the grass. Rocco completely blossoms the second he breathes fresh air. He sits sweetly, smiles for the camera, and handles his treats with absolute gentleness.
Shelter notes confirm he is an easy leash walker and fully potty trained. He is also highly social and participates beautifully in canine playgroups. He just has a naturally goofy, fun-loving style.
Sadly, the video notes a heartbreaking milestone for this shelter dog. Rocco has survived 325 days inside his kennel without a single family showing interest in his adoption. But his hopeful attitude never wavers. The clip has pulled in over 4,000 likes from emotional viewers rooting for his freedom walk.
Right now, this handsome 50-pound boy is back in his room at Miami-Dade Animal Services, waiting for his human to walk through the front doors. He definitely has a mountain of cuddles saved up for his future best friend.
