Rainy days can be miserable for some dogs and wildly entertaining for others. If you’ve ever owned a pup, you probably already know there’s rarely any middle ground. Some sprint back indoors at the first drizzle, while others act as though they’ve been personally invited to enjoy the downpour. One Golden Retriever recently proved he belongs firmly in the second category after a video showed him trying to catch raindrops one by one.
Golden Retriever knows what he is doing with those raindrops
The video, posted by @the_golden_basil, shows Basil standing near the steps outside his home while rain pours down around him. Water gathers along the edge of the roof before dripping steadily to the ground. Instead of avoiding the rain or running back inside, the Golden Retriever stays planted in the same spot, completely focused on the falling droplets.
As each drop falls, Basil lifts his head and tries to catch it directly in his mouth. He repeatedly snaps at the water with impressive timing, almost as though he has figured out the exact place to stand for the best results. Even with puddles forming beneath his paws, the dog remains determined to continue his unusual game.
The video quickly drew reactions from viewers who were amused by the dog’s determination. Many people filled the comments section with playful observations about Basil’s personality and appearance.
One commenter joked that he was “officially the rain catcher,” while another described him as “A real Teddy Bear.” Others focused on his fluffy look, calling him the “Cutest Golden bear.” One viewer even referenced the famous song lyric, writing, “Rain drops are fallin on my head!” after watching Basil stand happily beneath the dripping roof. Another person summed up the feelings of many viewers with a simple reaction: “Awwww how adorable!!!”
For Basil, a rainy afternoon became an opportunity for a new game. And judging by his concentration, he seemed more than happy to stay outside until he caught every last drop.
