Mother dogs are naturally protective of their puppies, especially during the first few weeks after birth. But for animals living in dangerous or abusive environments, that instinct is often paired with constant fear and stress. Rescue groups regularly witness how dramatically an animal’s behavior can change once they are finally placed somewhere safe.
A recent video shared on Instagram by @forgotten_now_family_rescue captured one of those moments through the story of a rescue dog named Mya. After being removed from a dog fighting property, Mya is now getting the opportunity to care for her puppies in peace for the first time.

The emotional clip shows Mya curled up tightly beside her puppies inside the rescue shelter. The mother dog keeps the litter pressed close against her while resting on a blanket, appearing calm and protective. Throughout the video, the babies nurse on her and sleep comfortably while she watches over them.
The text shown in the video explains that Mya had been “seized from a dog fight lot,” where she reportedly spent her life in a frightening environment connected to dog fighting and breeding. According to the rescue, she had lived with the fear that her puppies could be taken away from her at any moment.
Now, things are different. Another image in the reel shows the puppies feeding beside their mother while the text on screen reads, “You are so loved mama Mya. Don’t worry. No one will ever get to hurt you or them again.”
The rescue organization also shared a caption explaining how meaningful the moment was for everyone involved in saving her. They revealed that they personally carried Mya off the property during the rescue. The post described how she no longer has to fear seeing her puppies chained, taken away, or harmed.
“This time it’s different,” the rescue wrote, while explaining that Mya now gets to experience motherhood with “love, no fear.”
Viewers in the comments section were deeply moved by the video and by the visible bond between Mya and her puppies. “She’s such a good mommy,” one person commented. Another wrote, “The way she big spoons them!” after noticing how protectively she wrapped herself around the litter.
