Living by the water in New Jersey is basically a dream. But what do you do when you realize your pets don’t care about the thermostat? Gailin from @goldenchilidog knows this struggle better than anyone. Her dog, Chili, and his new puppy sister, Stevie, are already trying to turn March into mid-July. This video of their recent lake day shows the dog duo testing the freezing water. Stevie is feeling extra brave lately. But Chili just seems annoyed that his human hasn’t figured out how to heat the entire lake yet.

The clip opens with the trio hanging out on the jetty, and then it cuts to Stevie wading in very cautiously. Chili tries to show her how it’s done, but he also realizes the water is cold and stops in his tracks. Most owners will tell you that Golden Retrievers are part fish and usually live for the water. At first, Chili tries to lie down in the water and then just gets up and does a full-body shake.
Stevie, who was standing by, looked so offended by the spray that she actually started barking at him for the sudden shower. The cold water gave Stevie a massive case of the “oh snap” zoomies. She starts running in circles on the sand, and Gailin is just laughing in the background. She says, “Oh gosh, oh goodness,” because Stevie is just going wild. The pup even slips on the rock, but she doesn’t care.
Chili stays in the water, looking totally unimpressed by her performance. He just wants to go deeper. But Mom says he isn’t allowed to jump in yet, so he stares back at her like she’s ruining his life. Next, Stevie starts bobbing for rocks, which is her new favorite hobby. She finally gets one and takes it to the sand to bury it.
Later in the clip, Chili decides he needs to dig, too. He starts furiously throwing sand everywhere and also does this weird backflip move into his own hole. One viewer joked that Gailin needs to work on heating the lake for Chili immediately.
They eventually end up barking at a passing kayak. Because why not? They finally make it back inside to thaw out in a sunny spot. And yet Stevie is trying to pester her big brother for more playtime. They’re definitely going to be a handful this summer.
