Video: Rescue Dog & Cat Refuse to Go to Bed When Mom Is Out of Town

Some households have that one routine that falls apart the second one person is missing. Bedtime, apparently, is one of them. A video posted by @cactustherescue shows what happens when the usual nighttime system suddenly changes, and it’s just one human trying to manage both a rescue dog and a cat. Cactus lives with his human, Michael, and his cat brother Miso, and the two clearly have their own ideas about how bedtime should go. In this video, Michael is handling things while his girlfriend is out of town. The plan seems simple. Get the cat and dog into the bedroom. Lights out. Sleep. But the pets apparently have other plans.

Rescue dog and cat delay bedtime when mom’s not around

The clip starts with Michael walking into the hallway and finding the pair just hanging out. He says he is pretty sure these guys are up to something. Cactus is standing there with a very guilty look on his face while Miso is just sprawled across the floor. Dad tells them it is time for “night nights,” but they aren’t exactly moving.

Miso just rolls over on his back to show off his belly. And Cactus won’t even look at the camera. Michael really seems to be missing his girlfriend right about now. He eventually has to pick up the cat to get him back into the room. Then he places him in his little nest on top of the tower with a quick “boop.”

But then it is time to deal with the rescue dog. Cactus hops onto the bed but then immediately jumps back off like he saw a ghost. He stands in the doorway looking totally spooked by something invisible on the mattress. Dad has to talk to him and reassure him that everything is okay. He is an anxious dog, after all.

Dad finally has to lift the big guy up to get him settled. Cactus just stands there frozen on the bed while dad takes a quick audit of the room. Over 27k people have liked the video. One viewer joked that Miso probably told Cactus there was a boogeyman under the bed. Another person mentioned that Cactus is clearly an empath who knows things are different now that mom is gone. It really does feel like trying to put a couple of toddlers to bed.
