Video: Dog Possibly Understands Owner’s Every Word

A dog may not speak human tongue, but they understand every word you say — and this video of Argus the German Shepherd responding to his owner is proof of that. Even if you don’t believe him, the pup at least offers a very convincing performance.

The Reel is from Instagram user @argusdiary, featuring Argus, a 3-year-old working-line German Shepherd, stretched out next to his owner as he “talks” to him.

Dog and owner communicate smoothly in adorable video

In the video, the dog looks comfortable, lying close as his owner prompts him to speak — and he seemingly understands every word. The onscreen text reads, “When your dog can talk.”

And that’s exactly what the clip shows, as the owner prompts “one more,” then repeats it — “one more” — and Argus answers both times with a little whine right on cue. Under the video, the caption jokes, “Yes, dogs can talk.”

Of course, Argus is not speaking English, but dogs like him often get very good at this kind of back-and-forth, because many canines learn that certain words or routines earn them a reaction from their person in the form of attention, praise, a laugh, or a cuddle.

Over time, they start offering the same reaction again because it works. Besides, German Shepherds, especially working-line dogs, listen closely and pick up patterns extraordinarily quickly.

Viewers loved every bit of the “conversation.” One commenter could not help but gush, “There is NOTHING like being loved by a German Shepherd,” while others just dropped hearts and applause, like Argus had nailed his lines. And honestly, he kind of did.

The video shows a dog understanding every word his owner says, but it feels like a familiar routine between a pup and the person he trusts most. A cozy moment where Argus gets to play with his human, gets to be dramatic for a second, and then go right back to cuddling him.
