Cheddar was perfectly happy cleaning up a plate when his mom decided the job needed to end. And the look he gives her after being interrupted is almost too good. The video from @goldenboy.cheddar catches that exact moment.
When his mom tells him to “leave it,” he ignores her. She tries again, and Cheddar still carries on as if the request was never made. Then a clicking sound from mom gets the Golden Retriever’s attention, and suddenly there is a full side-eye aimed straight at mom.
Golden Retriever stops licking when her owner asks but pauses to deliver a hilarious side-eye
The video starts with Cheddar focused entirely on the plate in front of him. There is a mug sitting on it, but that’s beside the point. He keeps licking away at the leftovers while his mom calls his name and asks him to leave it. No reaction. She asks again, and Cheddar continues with his little cleanup project. Then his mom clicks her tongue. That does it.
Cheddar stops mid-lick and freezes, but looks straight at her. For a second, he barely moves, which makes the expression even funnier. It is not exactly angry. It is more like Cheddar cannot believe this interruption has happened to him while he is clearly doing something very important.
The video zooms in on his face, making the whole exchange even better. The text on screen sums it up perfectly: “The way he looked at me like I was the problem.” The comments had plenty of opinions, too. One viewer said the expression looked exactly like “mind your own business,” while another joked that Cheddar’s owner had simply interrupted him. Someone else admitted they could practically feel the look through the screen.
The Golden Retriever has apparently mastered a very specific form of communication, because that side eye really does feel personal. Unsurprisingly, the video has picked up more than 16,000 likes. Cheddar was only trying to finish his plate-cleaning duties. Getting called out for it was apparently the real offense.
