How long does the heartache last?

I had to put my sweet dog of 12 years down 3 days ago and I still feel overwhelmed by sadness. I know that the length of grieving varies by individual, but how long does the intensely sorrowful part last? I can't think of anything else and just feel unbelievably sad. Thank you

Me too....

Yesterday, we put our 11 year old GSD Kona to sleep. My wife, 3 boys and me were lucky enough to have a "country" vet who came to our home so Kona wouldn't have to go to the hated vets office. I've had dogs my whole life but never had to do it like this. It's really weird. You see the train coming down the track, you know it's going to hurt when it hits you but there is just no way to really prepare unless you'... (continued)

Say goodbye to my dog?

Thank you so much for writing this article. My dog was diagnosed with cancer a few days ago. It is a large mass and inoperable, but I will try radiation. I am unsure if this will work so I'm coming to the realization that it will soon be time for her to pass on. I'm incredibly sad for my sweet, sweet dog but your article has really helped me feel a bit better about how to approach this. Thank you, thank you!

CYBILL

I feel horrible that I waited tolong to put my lab mix down, yet I am also selfish and did not want her to go.. She was going on 16 y/o and could hardly walk on her back legs and one front leg was getting bad as well. Did I do the right thing? Should I or could I have done anything different? Hard part is my 2 y/o daughter asking about her..... We told her she went to be with Jesus (kinda worked) but still she questions it.. Any advice?

Top 10 dog care essentials

I disagree with one thing. Do not ask your vet about what to feed your dog. They are not trained on nutrition. Learn how to read a dog food panel. Compare ingredients. Your local pet supply store should be able to help with this better than your vet. Beware of online oppinions. Remember dog food companies will all tell you that their food is the best. Beniful is a perfect example. The comercials tell you i... (continued)

Caring for your senior dog

I'd love to see an article like this focused on natural / homeopathic medicine. I have a 12 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever and I almost lost him last year as a result of medications prescribed by several vets. When I stopped listening to these vets and began cooking human food for him, along with natural pain & preventative remedies, I literally saved his life. He looks better than ever and is healthy and hap... (continued)

Did I make the right choice?

We just put our 8-yo English Bulldog down this week. He suddenly became ill and we took him to the vet and they suspected a growth on his Spleen. After visiting two vets and ending up at a specialist they determined that it was indeed a growth that it had ruptured and was actively bleeding. there was no way to determine if it was benign or malignant without performing surgery. The specialist and our normal vet b... (continued)

Littlebit

I lost my "Littlebit" 36 hours ago. She was with us for 14 wonderful years and was the best little dog. She was never once sick in all of those years. She died at home in her Mommy's arms of old age. I really miss her and all I can do is look at her photo on my desk and cry. I have her collar and her favorite toy and somehow holding that toy makes me feel better. She was my first dog and very best friend. I just ca... (continued)
