Older cocker eating dirt/mulch and grass
I have a 14 year old spayed female cocker in good health except she has begun eating dirt or mulch? She gets feed regularly with treats so she not starving. We just dont have any idea why she is doing this. Took her to the vet, had blood work done, all came back clean. Just at a loss.

Thinking about fostering an adoptable dog?
Before you start fostering it's also important you have all the necessary supplies. A quick visit to a pet store can get you everything you'll need. I found that out with the first animal I fostered. I had forgotten to get a litterbox! Luckily, it was easily remedied. ( http://aquaworldpittsburgh.com )

Dogs fighting or playing?
Just finished reading Dogs fighting or playing?...how can I tell the difference
was just what I needed to read. My two great pry's got out of my yard, and took themselves for a "walk" ... when things got worse. A neighbor walking his unleashed Akita, met up with our self walkers, and unfortunately the man claims our 2 and 3 year old dogs attacked his so...while my female is on her back, with his Akita standing ov... Embrace your dog, just not literally
I have had dogs in the past that I would agree with the no hugging, but we have a pit bull that, especially with children, actually snuggles up to your chest like he wants you to hug him. I have never had a dog like him other than another pit that we used to have. Is it just the breed? I have noticed that they tend to be overly affectionate, especially the males and more with children, or at least ours have been. I... (continued)

I'm being "shunned" by my dog
My Basenji puppy is acting very fearful around me. He has even bit me aggressively. I have tried to give him love affection and positive reinforcement, with treat and praise but he still try's to avoid me. What am I doing wrong?

Dog Sharing ?
I have recently found out about dog sharing, where people who can't cope through illness or infirmity or because they are suddenly working away or for whatever reason are finding it hard not to neglect their dog and wonder what to do about it. So dog sharing is where you share the care of your dog with someone else in the local community. It could be anything from occassional walks to a second home and anything in ... (continued)

Dominance: Dog training's dirty word
My 4 month old black lab has alot of energy. Sometimes, after a walk, during a walk or when just playing in the backyard he will stop, look at me then basically "atttack" me... He jumps up starts biting at me. I have tried the "ignoring" thing and the "rolling on the back and "muzzling" thing as well, he reacts better to the dominance roll. Any suggestions?

Entertainment tips for dogs
That was a nice lecture on who dogs are... but you never once answered the man's question. He obviously already has a dog, so telling him not to get one is late advise, and he obviously cares about his dog because he is taking the time to ask you the question. The proper thing to do would have been to briefly step down from your pedestal and simply respond to his question...

Training a territorial dog
My husband and I have rescued a 10 month old dog about 2 1/2 months ago. He was very timid around us at first, and did not know how to be a pet. We think he is a german shepherd-husky mix (source: vet) We had him on a leash in the house a lot at the beginning to show him it is safe and okay to be with us. He is SUCH a different dog now! He loves my husband and I and enjoys playing with other dogs. We have noti... (continued)

Mature dog vs puppy
My 14 year old Bouvier passed away leaving her buddy a poodle terrier mix. We brought an 8 week old Bouvier into the family.Bouv is now 3 1/2 months and our older dog wants to spend all of her time in the laundry room--both are female. Our breeder brought several pups to the house when they were 6wks. and then our pup came to our home alone @ 8wks. Pup is a herding breed and is a natural so she also nips/bites. We ... (continued)
